PARAPHRASE

Filled with ecstatic pleasure I proffer my humblest salutations to thee, goddess Shree Yamunaji. Yamuna who is the bestower of supernal accomplishments; who is embellished with pious and profusely sparkling vast tracts of sands (more pervading than the holy waters), hallowed by the touch of sacred lotus-feet of Lord Shree Krishna, the foe of the formidable fiend, Mura, the polluter of holy water; Whose holy waters mingled with full-blossomed fragrant flowers unceasingly dripping down from the lush green forests overgrowing her either bank; Who is deferentially adored by gods (the submissive selfless devotees) And demons (the Coquettish Devotees) alike, and who is entirely enwrapped in the elegance of Lord Shree Krishna (the progenitor of Pradyumna, the very incarnation of Cupid himself), thereby perennially reminding both brand of devotees of him (Lord Shree Krishna).

PARAPHRASE

Acclamations to thee, Divine Yamuna Maharani, the daughter of Sungod, close ally of the Lotus. Yamuna who falling down with astounding speed over the head of the holy Kalinda Mountain, appearing ever whiter with infinitely flowing foams churned out of the water flow rollicking sportingly owing to vigorous speed during the course of onward march, rockering up graceful boulders in swift current, sweetly and softly murmuring, ascending and descending, as if seated, with dignity in the swing of swirling waters, ever inspires the feeling of profound transcendental love of Lord Mukund.

PARAPHRASE

(O DEVOTEES) bow to Divine Yamuna, the fourth of Shree Krishna’s sweethearts, who deigned to descend down upon the globe (earth) to impart sanctity to the universe; who is widely adored by innumerable flocks of parrots, peacocks and swans (to name only a few) with various warbling melodious notes, as though being cordially and warmly attendend on by her beloved female companions; the waves resembling her arms, ornamented by the bracealests of brightly sparkling sand inlaid with pearls of particles, are resting on her posteriors-the two fascinating shores.

REMARK

This piece of sacred verse reveals the identical virtues of goddess Yamuna and Lord Shree Krishna as it projects all the six celestial attributes Grandeur, valour, Renown, prosperity, knowledge, Renunciation-of both. The seventh epithet (the shelter of the ocean of grace) is also common to both, as the ocean of grace enjoy the vicinity of Lord Shree Krishna and holy Yamuna in turn, o Shree Krishna Himself.

PARAPHRASE

Oh Great Mother Yamuna! Compassionately wish in thy inner self a celestial bliss for me, so that my heart may get soaked into the glimpse of Lord Shree Krishna himself. Supreme Mother! Thou art like Krishna, endowed with endless virtues; equally eulogized by divine being like Lord Shiv and Lord Brahma, both (Shree Yamuna Jee and Krishna) commonly assume the splendor of dark nimbus clouds, are donors of much-cherished boon to realized soul like Dhruva and Parashar (both of these devotees once undergoing hard penances on the sacred shores of holy Yamuna and being blessed with desired object by shree Krishna as well); both equally enjoy the proximity of highly sacred Land Mathura (name of city) being closely related to Lord Shree Krishna because of His multifarious celestial sports around by cowherds and woman companions and who is the ocean of celestial grace because of her constant companionship with the lord Shree Krishna. Other rivers unite with the various oceans of the world but holy Yamuna is Unique as she (Shree Yamuna Jee) United’s with the various ocean of the world but holt Yamuna is unique as she (Shree Yamuna Jee) unit’s with the OCEAN OF GRACE-THE LORD.

PARAPHRASE

Oh Mother Yamuna! The annihilator of Kali’s (Kali being one of the four ages of Hindu mythology) vices and abductor of her devotees’ sins and sorrow, do condescend to reside eternally in the abode of my (Shrimad Vallabhacharya’s) inner self, Only because of thy confluence the holy Ganges grow capably of granting her devotees all their cherished ambitions and so becoming a darling to the Lord. Who can match such a supernal goodness- Yamuna? Of at all anybody can equate, it can be only goddess Laxmi by virtue of her being God’s (Shree Krishna) co-wife. Here it is notable that co-wives possess mutually altogether opposite nature. Goddess Laxmi is temperamentally opposite of divine Yamuna, (Laxmi is not favorable to devotees while holy Yamuna is).

PARAPHRASE

Oh, Shree Yamuna Maharani! I should ever remain bowed to Three, Thy qualities are ineffably unique. The person who drinks thy holy water gets totally liberated from the Yuma’s toments.Lo! Can yama (The son of Sun god) torture his own sister’s offspring’s using sacred water (milk) 0 of the holy Yamuna (The sundog’s daughter), howsoever wicked they are. Just as the Gopies (Vraj Woman) become extremely dear to Shree Hari (God) by serving thy (Yamuna), so also do the living creatures become Shree Hari’s (Lord’s) darling because of thy (Yamuna’s) adoration.

PARAPHRASE

May, oh Lord Mukunda’s (Shree Krishna’s) beloved (Yamuna), my physique attain novelty in your association, so that it may become sacred enough to participate in his divine sports. This being so, the attachment with/attraction for Lord Murari-shri Krishna-does not remain scarce Hence until the attainment of celestial renaissance in my inner self, May my hearty humble imploration of your receive your acceptance as my prayer. The holy Ganga, river of Gods, has earned excessive praise on the earth because of your contact alone. The Ganga by herself has never been eulogized by the devotees of the Pushtimarg but for your companionship.

PARAPHRASE

Oh Co-wife of godess Laxmi and beloved to Lord Shree Krishna, Yamuna! Who can venture to sing thy praise, because the worship of goddess Laxmi performed after that of lord Shree Krishna bestows (on devotees) the pleasure of perfection (salvation) alone, but thy bearing beggars all description, as thou art deeply imbued with the pious perspiration exuding from every limb of Shree Krishna’s body owing to His amorous sports with all the GOPIKAS. Consequently, thy devotees as well come in close contact with the drops of perspiration of the lord and they are blessed with the transcendental pleasure far higher then that of deliverance (MOKSHYA).

PARAPHRASE

Oh venerable Yamuna, daughter of Sun god! One who incessantly recites hilariously this eight-stanza verse composed by me (SHREEMAD VALLABHACHARYA) as your hymn, all his sins automatically erode. This apart, a spring of love for Lord Shree Krishna bursts forth in his heart and the reader owing to that godliness attains all the supreme accomplishments and the Foe of formidable and the reader conquers his self. His base passions are transformed into finer feelings. (This being the way of Shree Krishna. He condescends to grant exclusive exultation to the devotees of Vraj. But His temperament undergoes a sea change and He grants this devotional hymn). Such is the assertion of Shrimad Vallabhacharya, excessively dear to Shree Hari (Shree Krishna), the eraser of His devotees’ sins and pains.
